The swiss rank of "Wachtmeister" corresponds to NATO rank code OR-5. In this role, I was responsible for training and leading my squad while ensuring its overall readiness for service and operations. The role combined leadership, organisation, and accountability, requiring me to maintain standards, support cohesion within the group, and ensure that the squad was prepared to perform reliably in demanding situations. As a squad leader, one is also responsible for the physical and mental well-being of the soldiers in the squad. This meant adjusting training and task assignments to the needs and condition of the group and acting as the soldiers’ direct point of contact in daily service. For me, that was the most important task in this role.
